Sydney Myers-Donegan started her show career in 1996 at the age of 5. She began in Leadline classes showing MSF Bluemoonstaar +// (Little Staar) and MSF Staarquest (Butts) with her riding buddy, Debbie Reedy (another TEAM LMA member), on the lead at the Virginia Arabian Horse Association District IV Schooling Show Series. Sydney joined TEAM LMA to improve her riding skills shortly after her first District IV show. She has been under the tutelage of Dawn Roper, her only riding instructor, ever since. Under Dawn’s expert guidance, Sydney has developed and improved her riding skills throughout the years. As a result of the excellent riding skills she developed under Dawn’s guidance, Sydney earned her Arabian Horse Association Achievement Award Program Rider of Honor Champion (2005) and Rider of Supreme Honor Champion (2006). She is currently only 79 points away from her Rider of Excellence Champion and 19 points away from her Horseman of Honor Champion.
A list of Sydney’s Rated Show accomplishments follows, but some highlights include:
• In 2005, she showed her horse, Divine Elegance +// (Legs), to a Canadian National Top Ten in Purebred Arabian Trail AOTR, competing against and beating adults, including her riding buddy, Debbie.
• In addition to her National Top Ten, Sydney has won multiple Region 15 and East Coast Championship titles in Walk/Trot Pleasure - 10 & Under; Trail, Showmanship, Western Pleasure and Western Horsemanship, with her horse, Legs, and the horses of other TEAM LMA, including MSF Bluemoonstaar +// and Elite Baronet +/ for owner Debbie Reedy; Bahims Thunder +/ for owners John Cumberland and Richard Roper; Flannigan +/ for owner Judy Norton and Shamane Jumad for owner Maria Owens.
• In 2006, Sydney and Legs earned U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF) Horse of the Year Honors as follows:
o USEF Region 15 Arabian Western Pleasure Junior Exhibitor Champion
o USEF Region 15 Arabian Working Western Reserve Champion
o USEF Region 15 Arabian Hunter Pleasure Top Ten (8th)
Sydney loves to ride and will ride almost any horse anytime in any discipline. Sydney competes and wins in Western Trail, English Trail, Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Dressage, Hunter Pleasure, Sport Horse Under Saddle, Sport Horse In Hand, Sidesaddle, Native Costume and Halter. In 2007, Sydney began showing O Bravada V for Elaine Clark in Country English Pleasure. Even though, Sydney loves to ride all horses, her favorite “pony” to ride and show is still Little Staar, the first horse she ever showed.
Sydney looks forward to continuing her “winning ways” with TEAM LMA and sends a big “THANK YOU” to “Miss Dawn” for all her expert guidance and instruction, which have made Sydney the rider she is today and have enabled her to achieve her riding dreams!! Sydney, also, wishes to thank all the TEAM LMA members who have had faith and confidence in her riding abilities and have given her the opportunity to compete and win on their wonderful horses.
