Elizabeth Berry is a longtime resident of Spotsylvania County. She left Connecticut to complete her undergraduate work at Mary Washington College in 1988 and has lived here ever since. While at Mary Washington, she began taking her first riding lessons at Hazelwild. After three semesters she was hooked. She had always loved horses as a child, but had never really had the opportunity to be around them. It was then that she vowed that she would own her own horse one day. A husband (Mike), two children (Katie and Emily), two masters degrees, and a teaching career later, her dream finally came true. Liz (and Mike) bought her first horse, Rosie, in 2004. Much to her surprise, Rosie was in foal, so Liz soon became the owner of not one, but two horses. It was then that she discovered LMA. Dawn was a lifesaver, and a great source of information. After spending about a year at LMA, Liz, Katie, and Emily became interested in Arabians and showing. We found Rosie and Scout (her filly) good homes and bought our dream horse, Sarina in April 2006. Since owning Sarina, our dreams have been surpassed. This summer Sarina was named Region 15 Champion HA Mare in Hand. Thanks to Dawn and Desiree, she also won a Reserve National Championship and a National Top 10 for HA Sport Horse Mare. Not to mention, countless ribbons in halter and performance on the A rated circuit. In September she was awarded her Legion of Honor and her Legion of Merit thanks to LMA's hardwork. Next year, Liz may even get up the guts to show Sarina herself! Recently the Berry's also bought one of our favorite barn friends, a quarter horse named Zippity Cricket. Zip, Rosemount's Horse of the Decade, is going to teach Liz and the kids Western riding and trail. Liz and the kids had spent a great deal of time leasing Zip and taking lessons on him, prior to buying Sarina. Finally they decided, he needed to be part of their family too. Luckily, Dawn agreed to part with him. The Berry's are looking forward to many more years as part of the LMA Team. |
